Module 9 art exploration

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing? I found it very difficult to use my hands as drawing subject matter. 2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why? I used pencil because it was easier to erase if I made a mistake and it was readily available to me 3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand? This was extremely difficult for me because I do not use my dominant hand at all for any writing purposes so even holding a pencil seemed difficult. 4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies? I think they could have been constructed better but overall I am happy with the out come 5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future? I would not there is definitely a distinguishing factor between my dominant hand drawing and my non dominant hand. photo image_zpsd164d09d.jpg Sent from my iPhone

Module 9

Leonardo Da'vinci: Mind of the renaissance and the drawings of Michelangelo I chose these two videos because prior to these assignments I knew little about these artists and would like to explore them more. Leonardo Da'Vinci: mind of the renaissance - The video talks about how Leonardo makes millions of drawings and sketches for every work that he does and then shakes off the extra things in his art that are not needed anymore as he progresses. The drawings of Michelangelo -Michelangelo made in-depth sketches before actually executing the piece. The video takes the time to closely look at the artist’s pencil and charcoal works with the painting, sculpture, and architecture that grew out of them. His drawings were very in-depth and complicated. The videos relate to the text because in divulges more into the information on mannerism and how it grew out of possibilities suggested by the work of High Renaissance artists. In my own opinion I'm not really into learning through videos I get distracted and don't comprehend as well as I would through text, beside the point the information was interesting and provided a different understanding of the concepts from the book.

Module 8

I chose the video on the Cairo Museum simply because I love learning about ancient Egypt. It would be amazing to see the museum in Cairo, and learn more about the history involving Egypt. More human than human- Some of the key concepts include how we let what images that we see have such an impact on us. How humans made art, and how art shaped humanity. The compulsion to create the human body in art in an unnatural way. The Cairo Mueseum- This video spoke about the history of ancient Egypt. It was a video about the new exhibition about "Hidden Treasures" that is commemorating the museums hundredth birthday. The video relates to the text because the videos reiterate the text as well as going more into depth on these topics. The video's also look specifically and expand on Egyptian and roman architecture which was covered in the readings.

Module 7

In the video Architecture: Design of Science some of the key concepts included the use of concrete in modern day society. She also spoke on the importance of wind tunnel and foundation testing. She discussed the importance of concrete as a building material. For Last Call for Planet Earth we learned about the use and benefits of solar panels. Geothermal technologies and smart technology.

Both videos relate to the text because they give us a deeper understanding in to the content the book only touches on. While speaking on terms and techniques the the book helps us to have a greater understanding.

I liked both films, films allow us to explore certain materials deeper and understand easier. I think that Last Call for Planet Earth was interesting because I've also been curious about the use of alternative energies.

I chose the films I did half randomly and also because the names caught interest with me. I've always been interested in architecture and design and found the people that create skyscrapers amazing.

I thought that both Matched principles with pictures accurately and creatively. In Courtney's' I really enjoyed the puppy fur she used to represent texture. 2).There were not any images the same as my own for project two, I did enjoy "only god knows I'm good" in Courtney's and "Picture Lens" in Jonathans. 3).John Ahearn Pinwheel, 1998 Plaster I loved this piece, I pulled me in, I would have loved to know why the artist created this plaster work and what his message was he was sending. 4). I like peer reviews because it gives me a chance to look at others works and interpretations on similar instructions. I like seeing others opinions and contrasting them with my own. 5). My peers who left me comments at least reassured me that I was not completely lost when completely this project specially for someone who IS NOT art inclined!

Module 6

Some of the concepts I've learned from the video included, Through the eyes of a sculptor: "A sculpture comes alive in clay, dies in plaster and is reborn in marble.” In this video we learn the creative process behind a sculpture. We learn the distinction between craft mans and Artists. Glass and ceramics; This video explains the process behind ceramics and glass art. We learn about the abundance of glass in our environment. ceramics are in just as much of abundance and are commonly known as dishes and bricks. These videos reinforced what was already touched on in the book providing an in depth look at ceramics, glass an sculpturing as well as techniques and methods. I enjoyed the films because they provided more of a visual understanding of the text making it more three dimensional and easier to understand.
